- Animals Australia – Animals Australia is Australia’s second largest and most dynamic national animal protection organisation.
- National Desexing Network – National Desexing Month is a month of action with the purpose to help end pet overpopulation. During August, welfare organisations, pounds, councils and veterinarians are encouraged to raise the public’s awareness about pet overpopulation and promote desexing as a humane method of solving it.
Animal Shelters and Rescue
- Cat Haven – The Cat Haven is maintained by the Cat Welfare Society Inc, as a community service. The Cat Haven has grown from its humble beginning in 1961 to be the foremost cat welfare organisation in Western Australia.
- Cat Sterilisation Society Inc – The Society was established, and incoprorated in 1989. The Cat Sterilisation Society believe sterilisation not the destruction of cats is true animal welfare and offer desexing services.
- Cat Alliance of Australia – Cat Alliance of Australia Inc offers support and advice to the community regarding stray cats, supplies information on humane cat control programs and partners with compassionate veterinarians offering high-volume, low-cost cat desexing.
- Dogs’ Refuge Home – The Dogs’ Refuge Home is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the rescue, care and re-homing of dogs. Established in 1935, it is one of the oldest animal welfare agencies in Australia. Their activities are motivated by the fundamental understanding that dogs are entitled to the same love and respect that they unconditionally give to us.
- Poundwatch – A strictly voluntary organisaion dedicated to re-homing neglected and abused animals rescued from ‘death row’ at local pounds.
Wildlife
If you find a sick, injured, orphaned or displaced native animal or bird, arrange first aid quickly.
Swift action may well save the animal’s life, so phone immediately. Much effort will be put into treating and nursing the bird or animal back to full health and, eventually, the release of the animal back into its natural habitat.
