Footage shows live chickens being dumped at poultry farm

A Forrestdale chicken farm is facing allegations of animal cruelty after a Perth man captured horrifying footage of chickens being thrown into a skip bin.

Luke Mace went to Forrestdale Farm Fresh Eggs yesterday morning where he witnessed a staff member hurling chickens into the bin.

Mr Mace told Seven News he saw a man walking towards the skip bin carrying several chickens in a bucket.

“He tipped them into a skip bin and I heard clucking and chickens coming out of it,” he said. He said he saw hundreds of chickens, half of them dead and half alive.

He described a putrid smell “like an animal rotting on the side of the road” coming from the bin.

Mr Mace filmed a second worker holding chickens by their legs and tossing them into the bin. He was confronted by a worker at the farm, who explained the chickens were to be gassed.

“He told me ‘we’ve got some young chickens coming in so we need to make room for them’,” he said.

“I thought that was a heap of crap.

“It’s absolutely horrifying and disgusting.”

Mr Mace immediately called the RSPCA, who visited the farm later in the day.

An RSPCA spokeswoman confirmed they are investigating the incident.

A worker at the chicken farm denied accusations of animal cruelty, saying the chickens were being euthanised.
